Born on the sunny streets of Anaheim, California in 1966, Vans began as The Van Doren Rubber Company—a small family venture handcrafting custom deck shoes directly on-site for local customers. When Southern California’s early skate pioneers discovered the shoe’s rugged canvas uppers and signature grippy waffle sole, an enduring cultural icon was born. Co-designed alongside skateboarding legends like Tony Alva and Stacy Peralta in the 1970s, classic silhouettes such as the Era, Old Skool, and Slip-On transformed Vans from functional footwear into an emblem of rebellious self-expression. Today, the iconic "Off The Wall" sidestripe and checkerboard pattern transcend skateparks to define timeless streetwear worldwide, blending heritage rubber craftsmanship with effortless, casual style.
